About 849 River Ridge Road

849 River Ridge – A Mountain River…Civilized!

What awaits you at 849 River Ridge Road in Boone?  Mountain utopia awaits you where, for millennia the ancient New River, winding it way to peaceful Todd, has gracefully caressed this valley of abundance.  Only a short, paved ride from Boone, River Ridge remains pristine.  During the day you’ll smell the forest’s fragrance and gaze at mists melting into the mountain.  As the sun sets, brace yourself for conflagration as heaven ignites in a profusion of dazzling, celestial candlelight, sparkling like a garland of diamonds in the night sky.  Winds have wafted this canyon and water woven this valley since time immemorial.  Wildlife abounds, birds chirp and leaves rustle in the trees.  Why not spend some of your precious time in this eternal valley of mountain splendor?  Harmonize the flow of your life with the eternal rhythms of nature in this bowl of tranquility known as River Ridge.  Make your home amidst ridge top breezes and sweeping vistas over vast chasms or where lawn rolls to river and window admits gurgling sounds of clear water spilling over ancient Appalachian rock runs.  River Ridge possesses a quality that transcends description.  Come experience paradise today but prepare yourself – you may never go back!

Cresting the ridge, we start down to the river and then shortly park in one of four or five spaces at 849 River Ridge Road.  Opening the door of your car immediately admits a maelstrom of sensory delight.  Birdsong, wind whistling in the oaks, rush of river below, majestic vistas swirl about you.  Let’s step down the outer stairs to this lovely home.  Double gates secure your pets and abundant fencing offers plenty of room for them to play.  Walking onto the covered side porch you’ll continue to absorb the magic of River Ridge.  And in the summer season this is where we live.  Although it’s perched above the river on only 6/10ths of an acre, it feels like much more because you’re so tucked away in the woods.  It’s the quintessential mountain log home with a metal roof.  And the lot to the left can never be built.  So, privacy, yes, with nice neighbors.  Serenity with a sense of safety in community.  Looking down from the porch you’ll survey the exotically landscaped gardens replete with a profusion of flora like understory rhododendron so exuberant here in our temperate rainforest.  Beyond the porch is the open deck ahead with views overlooking the majestic New River Valley.  Here the stars at night are a wonder.  Mornings begin with the flight of two local geese who carom up and down the river and help you reset your natural rhythm.  Watch the deer graze the bank.  River Ridge is the epitome of bucolic and pastoral.

Walking back in this stout log home from the porch we enter an open-plan, kitchen-great room surrounded by glass for a light and airy aesthetic.  The kitchen is tastefully appointed with a new, white, ceramic tile counter.  Stove and Microwave were replaced 18 months ago.  Offset from the kitchen is a breakfast space so convenient for food and conversation.  Natural hardwood floors grace the space.  Walking to the great room you’re find a stone hearth and wood-burning fireplace.  Natural sunlight bathes the space spilling in from the Palladian Window appointing the cathedral ceiling.  Scent of the ubiquitous tongue-and-groove, wood and log walls permeates the room.  Looking up you’ll easily communicate with anyone enjoying the luxury of the open loft above.  The staircase is deftly appointed with a round-pine rail.  The pinnacle is the soaring stout pine post that theatrically climbs from the loft to the ceiling.

Walking past the kitchen counter you’ll first find the Z-frame barn-style doors appointing most entry ways and closets, the first of many delightful surprises in our experience.  Another is the absolute abundance of storage space in this home.  While maybe mundane, it is underestimated in importance and livability.  Entering the master suite, you’ll love the ease of having the master on the main.  It’s quite spacious and enjoys its own in-suite bath.  There’s also a laundry in the bath with a recently replaced washer.  Here again we find a surprisingly large closet and that surprise will continue.

Let’s climb to the loft and look at the life up there.  The massive pine post sets the tone from the moment you walk in the great room as you climb the stairs.  The views from the loft are astounding.  Everything is so bright and airy you just feel good.  More Z-plank doors admit us to the two upper bedrooms and shared Jack-and-Jill bath.  Except for one vanity space, all of these rooms enjoy vaulted ceilings.  The tongue-and-groove walls really say you’re in the mountains.  And the separate sleeping spaces really give everyone plenty of privacy.

From the great room we can also easily enter the lower level.  There’s a lot to like down here.  At the bottom of the stairs off to the right is a nice bonus room for myriad purposes.  To the left is an under-stair closet of surprising size.  Ahead is an abundant family room replete with a foosball and ping pong table.  The mechanical closets will impress you with the three-year new HVAC and air handler controller with a Nest thermostat.  And just outside is the lower deck replete with a recessed hot tub and around the corner another covered porch for your morning coffee or evening libation on those rainy days.  It’s lovely down here outside with the fire pit and extended gardens.

When you feel the need to explore beyond the comforts of home, you’ll find River Ridge is positioned in the center of a natural playground.  My RR denizens saunter down to the bridge with their morning coffee and dog to greet the day.  Down here you can glide along the groomed riverwalk, fish from the bridge, put in or pull out your kayaks, tubes or canoe for an adventure to the Todd park and back.  For road cyclists there is Railroad Grade Road just minutes away for miles of flat cycling between Todd and Fleetwood.  Saunter on to West Jefferson for antiquing or craft brews.  Boone and Blowing Rock are equidistant.  Nature and culture compete for your attention.

A footnote on this property is its rentability. The owners represent their income consistently in the $40-50K range.  This is their home and not their business but it’s a nice fringe aspect.  Life is easy here and that is complemented by fiber-optic cable and underground power.

It's all waiting for you here at 849 River Ridge Road in Boone.  Call or e-mail us today and we’ll await your arrival at your destiny tomorrow.
